Short Biography of Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was born on july 18th, 1918 in the village of Mvezo in Umtata, then
a part of South Africa's Cape Province. His story symbolizes a lifestyle struggle against
apartheid in South Africa. it was a terrible form of institutionalized racismn that held the
South African society in it's grip for a long time.

• His birth name was Rolihlahla Mandela. "Rolihlahla" in the Xhosa language literally means "pulling the branch of a tree",
  but commonly translates as "troublemaker".
• He was South Africa's first Black president after winning the country's first democratic election from 1994 to 1999.
• He was imprisoned for 27years for political offenses.
• A Nobel Peace Prize winner.
• He wrote Long walk to Freedom autobiography.
• First person for whom the United Nation Nations designated an inernational day to honour his birthday: 18 july 2013.
